RANDWICK
TRACK - Rated a Good 4 - Rail goes out +5m and with a lack of rainfall this week I expect a slight advantage to horses positioning forward of midfield and drawn inside. The main factor tomorrow should be tempo and finding cover.
**SELECTIONS**
R1 - 6 ARABELLA STAR $3.90
A lot of the Sydney horses here are coming out of the same trials and while there looks to be some quality in the race, I thought this Star Turn filly coming up from Victoria might be the left field option with a touch of class. She's been fast out of the gates, won both her trials in good time and Beau Mertens travels up to ride her for a stable who can get a 2yo going early. Drawn beautifully in 2 to jump and box seat or lead.
R2 - 3 LANCASTER BOMBER $11/3.60 1x3 (VALUE)
This is another Midway where you have options from a number of different formlines and could make a case for 6-7 runners. I thought Lancaster Bomber put in a strong performance last start in BM78 grade, strong late but narrowly beaten by Crafty Eagle who has won a Midway prior. Should get the right tempo to spring off and fly home but won't want to miss the kick from the inside gate.
R3 - 4 VOLCANIC LOVE $5/2.20 1x3
I am convinced he might be the best horse in what looks an extremely open Highway. He is rock hard fit now off the back of two strong performances up north, firstly winning a class 1 at Grafton in arrogant style by 4.8L carrying 61.5kgs before running 3rd behind Castillian in a Class 3 at Eagle Farm. Matty Dunn has used these races well as lead ups to Tab Highway wins over recent months. 1600m is the query, no strong mile form but my gut suggests he runs it out.
R4 - 4 SMASHING TIME $3.10
Siding with the fresh form on the block this preparation in Smashing Time, who had to knuckle down late to catch a speedy front runner 1st up on the home track. I have an opinion of that filly and they panelled 3rd by 8.5L. He flew home in 32.57s on a day I have noted down as on pace suited. Drawn well to stalk and fly home late.
R5 - 2 JUST PARTY $3 (BEST BET)
Arguably should've won last start when flying home, just missing Anode in the Tapp-Craig. Only has himself to blame having been slow out of the gates with the blinkers on 1st time. He holds strong formlines, was certainly luckless 2 starts ago over the mile and this looks a suitable race. If he starts well and gets the required luck from the inside gate, I think he's one of the better bets on the day.
R6 - 6 DEMOCRACY MANIFEST $4.60
I think the Epsom looks a nice lead up for a race like this and gee he was strong through the line. He looks set to peak 4th up, on a dry deck and out to the 1800m. Smaller field is a big positive and Nash Rawiller will get the best out of him late.
R7 - 1 EL CASTELLO $3.20
Whether it is the case or not, will be known tomorrow but there looks to be a real lack of tempo on paper, which will allow Josh Parr to push forward and settle many lengths in front of his main rival Swiftfalcon. He continues to step up each time he gets to a further trip and the stable have had the Derby in mind for him since day one. I love that he beat the older horses in a Midway off the back of his maiden win and I also feel as though he was running away from his 3yo rivals across the line in the Gloaming, which looks the right lead up here.
R8 - 1 ZOUGOTCHA $4.20
I found it really hard to split Zougotcha and Magic Time here but the barrier draw is much kinder to the daughter of Zoustar here who should settle in a lovely trailing position behind the speed, without doing any work. She was a touch flat in the 7 Stakes but the stable can have a runner do that and bounce back to their best 3rd up. Would've loved a touch of give in the ground but on her best, she is the right price.
R9 - 5 OSIPENKO $8/2.60 1x3
He's only won the 3 from 20 starts but you could argue he's really well in here against his own age? Antino spanked them last start but I don't think he got the ideal run and that was in a Group 1 Handicap. He's drawn to sit in the running line over a trip that I feel is close to his sweet spot with gun rider booked.
R10 - 6 CAFE MILLENIUM $6/2.10 1x3
I certainly think he's a bit of an enigma and a gentle giant who doesn't carry that killer instinct, however he gets the blinkers on here, 3rd up and he just didn't quite get the luck required last start. Strong through the line and I t think he's found a winnable race here and drawn ideally for Tommy Berry.

MOONEE VALLEY
TRACK - Track rated a Good 4 and the rail is in the true position Friday night and Saturday. This gives us a good opportunity to watch the track and get a good read prior to the 1st. I expect it to be a fair deck and have been pretty impressed how it has played this season to date.
SELECTIONS
R1 - 9 FRILLED $4.20
Very speedy mare who is a short course specialist and does race well at this track. She missed the kick over the 955m 1st up but to my surprise knuckled down late and smashed through the line. She can jump better tomorrow and stay out of the trouble from the draw.
R2 - 4 WOLFGANG $12/5 1x3 (No 3rd div)
I've been patiently waiting for this bloke to return to the races as a gelding and he has been scratched on a few occasions. He's jumped out exceptionally well in the lead up and I love the positive booking of Damian Lane fresh. This is a classy field so if he's not 100%, he won't be winning but he has looked good at the jumpouts.
R3 - 8 SAVAGERY VIBE $5
She's a nice filly this and she justified that with a 3.3L win on debut at Bendigo, before finishing midfield in the G2 Danehill at Flemington down the straight. Plenty of speed here but being drawn the 6 she should be able to hold a few out and remain in the running line, which suits.
R4 - 1 CAVITY BAY $4.40
She's coming out of the right races and I love the 1800m SA Listed form back to the mile here , with Mark Zahra going aboard. The inside draw might prove crucial with plenty of inexperienced horses tackling the Valley for the first time. Open race, but she ticks enough boxes for mine.
R5 - 2 FUTURE HISTORY $3.30
He put in an out of character performance at Randwick last time out but he did have excuses and it was a high pressure 2400m with an apprentice aboard. He loves the Valley, 1 win 2 placings from 3 starts here, he's rock hard fit, barrier 2, Mark Zahra - a lot to like and I'm with him.
R6 - 2 RED ACES $3.10. (BEST BET)
I was hot on his chances last week and I wish he took his place because I'm sure some speed would've been injected into a lacklustre and boring 3yo staying race. It was embarrassing to say the least and there's a reason why the NSW 3yo's are fancied in the Derby next weekend - these Vic stayers haven't felt pressure yet! Should find a position in the running line and I believe he's been very strong late in his races, crying out for more ground and can relish long trips off high mid race pressure.
R7 - 2 OSCAR'S FORTUNE $3.20 1x3
What a race this is. He acquitted himself very well in his 1st Melbourne run and savaged the line behind Bellatrix Star over 1100m. He has improved sharply 2nd up in the past, has beaten Amelia's Jewel, this looks a target and I like his map with D Lane aboard.
R8 - 3 LAWS OF INDICES $16/4.20 1x3 (VALUE)
I'm interested in the 6yr old here having his 3rd up run for the new stable. I think he's had two pipe openers to get some fitness in and Phil jumps him up sharply to the mile here. This is an approach we haven't seen with him to date, some give in the track would be ideal but he's over the odds for mine. He did finish 1.8L off Anamoe over the mile last preparation, albeit he did have 18 months out of racing.
R9 - 8 BROADSIDING $6.5/2 1x3
I've believed this bloke is a proper stallion in the making for quite some time and with the weight relief here, 3rd up out to the 2000m, running line draw with Jamie Kah aboard, I just feel he gets a real opportunity to fly late, off the back of what is expected to be a hot tempo. POJ needs to back up on 7 days, someone will need to tag the field up to her and if there is a few under pressure, id rather be with the horse on the way up with no weight. I won't be losing on Mr Brightside, who ran 2nd in a photo here last year and he's got the gun draw once again.
R10 - 5 LITTLE MIX $7/2.20 1x3
She was good 1st up in what looks a nice form race moving forward and she's very suited sharply out to 2040m 2nd up. Very consistent over trips 2000m + last preparation and will sit in the running line without doing a stack of work early. B Shinn a huge positive.
